We stopped to take this photo of a small lake near Madeline, CA (population: 60) when a county sheriff pulled over to see if I needed help. I guess the sight of an old guy on his hands and knees on the side of the road hundreds of miles from anywhere is a little unusual here.

We stopped for a break at rest area near Lakeview, Oregon, and this little fellow found us interesting. He lived in a burrow under the rock he is sitting on. Very cute.

Alkaline Lake, Oregon, just passed the chipmonk's home. Looks beautiful but you can't swim or fish in it and the smell isn't all that pleasant either.
